We currently have an exciting opportunity as a Human Resources Coordinator. This role is based out of our Barrie plant, and reports to the Human Resources Business Partner.

Job Summary

We are currently looking for an HR Coordinator who will provide timely and professional Human Resources support to the Patterson Plant, ensuring applicable legislation is adhered to.  Assists with the administration and maintenance of Human Resources programs, policies and procedures in accordance with Canplas objectives.

Principal Responsibilities

  • Assign and recommend dates to target completion of Performance Appraisals (annual, 30/60/90)

  • Manage and arrange the employee recognition programs and rewards

  • Administer Service Award Program

  • Ensure compliance with Employment Standards Legislation (ex. Sick Leave, Family Responsibility Leave, Equal Pay, Discrimination, etc.)

  • Excess hours and Overtime Averaging agreement compliance and issued and updated every two years for every employee

  • Process all hiring paperwork for new hires (payroll, benefits, pension)

  • Review new hire package payroll, handbook and policies/procedures 

  • Schedule orientation for all new hires with applicable stakeholder groups

  • Facilitate new hire orientation covering human resources policies

  • Facilitate meet/greet sessions with all New Hires (History of Canplas Presentation) with Leadership Team

  • Vacation accrual, pay and leave administration

  • Legislated leave and personal leave of absence administration

  • Consolidate payroll for administration, schedule changes and approval

  • Collect benefit payments for all Canplas Employees if on leave

  • Calculate and input annual increments (vacation hours, rate changes, etc.)

  • Coach use of Dayforce, including administration of time clocks

  • Maintain integrity of payroll audit trail and approvals

  • Provide payroll with all changes regarding employee rates, department changes, job changes

  • Administer the employee pay progression system

  • Manage, administer and update Plant Wage Scale annually

  • Update general wage increase changes

  • Working knowledge of Pension Administration (including retirement options, processing enrolments and requesting retirement packages)

  • Conduct Benefit/Pension Orientation Sessions

  • Ensure adherence to Tools policy and Uniform policy through procedures for approval and administration of authorized deductions

  • Manage the Short-Term Disability program for all hourly employees

  • Manage the Long-Term Disability program for all hourly employees

  • Follow-up and evaluate modified work (including non-work related)

  • Compile data for reporting purposes such as Month End HR reports, GL cost reports, turnover, attendance, etc.

  • File and maintain employee records, signed documentation and agreements

  • Maintain employee medical records securely

  • Manage record retention in accordance with legislation for 3 years as per Employment Standards and 7 years as per CRA

  • Review and enforce the attendance policy and expectations

  • Post notices on the HR Communication board/Communication TV

  • Plan and distribute location calendar (with key dates, shutdowns, events)

  • Facilitate and manage service and retirement recognition rewards

Qualifications & Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resource Management combined with

  • 3-5 years experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. 

  • Possess strong understanding of Canadian employment legislation. 

  • Working knowledge of group benefit and pension plans.

  • Proficient with MS Office applications.

  • Strong working knowledge of HRIS systems, specifically Dayforce and Workday is an asset.

  • Demonstrate exceptional communication skills, tact, diplomacy and confidentiality.
