POSITION SUMMARY:

 

The Landscape Field manager will have direct oversight over our current maintenance team, as well as being responsible for the development of a second team that will handle more complex landscape installation projects. The field manager will take an active role in field activities while building up the installation team through hiring and training. The current maintenance team will also be trained and brought up in their skill level in the process. Position responsibilities include quality control, adherence to scope of work, as well as keeping projects on time and within budget. This position will also require setting schedules for both teams and updating calendars to ensure efficient workflow and the best use of available resources. As well as ensuring that project materials are available as needed to fit the work schedule. 

 

The position requires working directly with community members to manage their expectations, coordination with any subcontractors involved in our projects. The manager will also have oversight of our vehicles, equipment and tools, as well as our plant nursery and the facilities in general. 

 

The Field Manger will answer directly to the Project Manager, and the Senior Program Director while working alongside other green team managers.  

 

The Field Manager position is Monday-Friday, 7:30 am-3:30 pm, totaling 40 hours weekly, with occasional weekend and evening hours for volunteer events. The salary ranges from $60,000-$65,000, based on skills and experience. Benefits include paid time off, a 401(k) plan with organizational matching, and disability, health, dental, and vision insurance.

Civic Works’ Community Landscape Program transforms vacant lots into community gardens and green spaces within Baltimore City neighborhoods. AmeriCorps members, community leaders, residents, local artists, and volunteer groups collaborate to create and maintain thriving community spaces.



 

ABOUT CIVIC WORKS 

 

Civic Works strengthens Baltimore communities through education, skills development, and community service. Our programs focus on improving neighborhoods, workforce development, education, and green initiatives.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Taking inventory of all tools and supplies needed for the day’s work and briefing the crew supervisor on the work plan.
  • Supervision of tool and equipment loading according to the daily checklist, daily vehicle safety inspections, and coordination of team transportation to worksites.
  • Ensuring the safety and efficiency of team members and volunteers at worksites, while supervising the work performed to meet daily objectives.
  • Take charge of organizing and managing volunteer events.
  • Collaborate with other greening programs to find activities and training opportunities for the program.
  • Upkeep virtual and in-office team calendars. 
  • Conduct regular vehicle inspections and report in Fleetio.
  • Keep all facilities, tools, and equipment clean and organized.

 

Qualifications

APPLICANTS SHOULD DEMONSTRATE THE FOLLOWING REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

 

  • Ability to motivate teams, encourage and foster the professional growth of individuals from diverse backgrounds and skill levels, while maintaining a positive work culture.
  • Experience managing and tracking projects and teams. 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in record-keeping.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, both in-person and electronically.
  • Experience driving trucks and towing trailers. DOT required.
  • Experience in training others in landscaping.
  • Demonstrated skills and experience in landscape construction, including but not limited to:
    • Plant ID and planting techniques
    • Greenspace maintenance
    • Hardscape installation
    • Heavy equipment operation
    • Small engine and equipment maintenance
    • Basic carpentry
    • Small-scale stormwater BMPs

 

Educational requirements:

 

A 4 year degree in Sustainable Horticulture or a related field is preferred. An Associates degree, certifications and or relevant work experience will be taken into consideration on this requirement.
