We are seeking a proactive, detail-oriented Laboratory Technician to join our Material Science laboratory. In this hands-on and strategically important role, you’ll be responsible not only for performing and refining material tests on our self-developed packaging solutions, but also for writing SOPs, validating new test methods, and generating structured documentation that supports our R&D and product development functions.
Our lab is equipped with analytical tools including oxygen and water vapour barrier testers, tensile and heat-seal testing machines, and will continue to expand. You'll also occasionally contribute to the operation and upkeep of our Coatema coating line to ensure high-quality material output.
This role is based at our offices in Holm, near Hamburg.
How you'll help build one•fıveAs a key member of the Material Science team, you will:
Plan and conduct testing to characterize sustainable packaging materials, supporting the R&D and product development teams with reliable data - this will include regular routine testing
Write, maintain, and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs) and documentation for existing and new testing methods
Validate new lab procedures to ensure reproducibility, consistency, and quality of test data
Operate and maintain lab equipment, including instruments for oxygen and water transmission, tensile strength, thickness, and surface roughness testing
Analyse and document results to support product improvement, material optimisation, and customer-specific requirements
Drive data quality and consistency by establishing robust data management practices for test results and reports
Collaborate closely with R&D to co-develop testing plans that align with development milestones and innovation projects
Support the QA process with reference measurements, calibration routines, and inspection of raw and coated materials
Monitor and report on production quality by evaluating coating thickness, adhesion, and material appearance
Contribute to the continuous improvement and digitalisation of our lab workflows and internal processes
A trained Laboratory Technician or holder of a B.Sc. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical field
2+ years of experience in a lab-based role, preferably within a QA, R&D, or materials testing environment
Strong experience in writing technical documentation, protocols, and SOPs
Comfortable designing and validating new test methods in coordination with scientific or engineering teams
Hands-on experience with analytical lab instruments and sample preparation techniques
Data-driven and meticulous, with a strong commitment to precision, repeatability, and quality
Familiarity with barrier testing, flexible packaging, coatings, or paper materials is highly desirable
Technically curious with a proactive mindset – you enjoy building and improving lab infrastructure and workflows
Fluency in English is required; German is a plus
