Senior Facilities Manager at The Crown Estate
Purpose of Role
We’re looking for a proactive and people-focused Senior Facilities Manager (SFM) to lead a team of Facilities Managers and ensure the delivery of exceptional operational services across a portfolio of managed properties. This is a key leadership role that combines team development, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction to support The Crown Estate’s strategic goals, including our commitment to sustainability and safety.
Context of Opportunity / Main Accountabilities
As a Senior Facilities Manager, you will:
- Lead and develop a team of Facilities Managers, ensuring they are supported, trained, and empowered to deliver high standards of service.
- Champion a safety-first culture, overseeing compliance, fire safety, and risk management across your portfolio.
- Drive operational excellence, ensuring hard and soft services are delivered to best-in-class standards and aligned with customer expectations.
- Act as a key stakeholder across multiple business units, collaborating with internal teams and external service partners to deliver shared goals.
- Support innovation and continuous improvement, contributing to estate-wide initiatives that enhance customer experience and operational efficiency.
- Manage service partner relationships, attend KPI/SLA reviews, and act as an escalation point for your team.
- Oversee financial performance, including service charge budgeting, purchase orders, and variance reporting.
- Lead incident response and disaster planning, acting as Duty Manager on a rotational basis and supporting health and safety investigations.
- Support The Crown Estate’s net zero carbon goals, focusing on building-level sustainability initiatives and contractor compliance.
Most Important Skills-Based Requirements
- Extensive facilities management experience (minimum 7 years), ideally in a property or corporate FM environment.
- Strong leadership and line management skills, with experience managing small teams and mentoring others.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with a customer-first mindset.
- Technical knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, building services, and contractor management.
- Qualifications including IWFM Level 3 (or equivalent), IOSH Managing Safely, and ideally NEBOSH or Associate RICS/MIWFM.
- A proactive, organised, and results-driven approach, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and drive change.
