This full-time, bridge-to-career opportunity pairs fellows with host organizations, from local governments to nonprofits and businesses, to drive real-world change.

About the Opportunity

Length of Fellowship: 10 months

Are you energized by engaging communities, education, and empowering the next generation of climate leaders? As a Community Outreach Fellow in the Climate Corps Fellowship program, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to impactful climate resiliency & sustainability initiatives with Silicon Valley Clean Energy. This is a hybrid position with the expectation of onsite work 2 days per week & 3 days remotely. This role will include some potential for evening and weekend outreach events.

This position requires the employee to be physically located in Sunnyvale, CA, at the time of hire. Only candidates currently residing within commuting distance of this location will be considered.

The Community Outreach Fellow will lead SVCE's education initiatives and school partnerships, developing programs that inspire students to learn about clean energy and electrification through projects and scholarships. This role offers invaluable experience in community relations, outreach, marketing, and project management, alongside insights into local government and the clean energy industry. The Fellow will also champion decarbonization and SVCE programs at community events, effectively communicating SVCE's mission to diverse stakeholders. Collaborating closely with the Customer Success team, this position provides hands-on experience and a tangible impact within the sustainability and climate sector. 

Projects you will be working on include:

  • Pilot nonprofit education grant.
  • Student initiatives – student project sponsorships and scholarships.
  • DIY toolkit program and library partnership.

About Our Partner: Silicon Valley Clean Energy

Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) is the community choice electricity provider for 13 communities in Santa Clara County. By providing electricity generated from renewable and clean sources, SVCE has helped to lower regional, energy-related emissions by 29% from the 2015 baseline and continues to reduce local pollution through innovative community programs focused on building and transportation electrification. 

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and coordinate youth climate engagement initiatives such as the SVCE student sponsorships, nonprofit education grants, and annual scholarship competition
  • Engage with the SVCE service area by attending local events; presenting about SVCE to various groups; and building relationships with local nonprofits, neighborhood organizations, other public agencies, and more
  • Create messaging and graphics for social media, write news releases, blogs, staff reports, newsletter articles, and other presentation materials;
  • Perform tasks of an analytical or research nature for suitable projects or ongoing assignments that call for specific acquired academic skills and knowledge;
  • Locate sources of information and collect and organize data, as directed;
  • Assist with the development of written, graphic and/or oral reports and material;
  • Attend virtual and in-person community events where SVCE is present; and
  • Gain knowledge of community choice energy providers and of the energy industry.

  • Exceptional writing skills.
  • Detail-oriented and organized.
  • Understanding and passion for the traditional and social media landscape.
  • Strong interviewing, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Experience working with youth.
  • Graphic or web design and editing skills.
  • Ability to work with a team, as well as independently motivated.
  • Passion to help build our brand while building your career. 
  • Knowledge of Santa Clara County and its communities.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Chinese is strongly desired.
  • Applicants must be able to perform the essential job functions with or without a reasonable accommodation
  • A college degree is preferred but not required.
  • The ability to work onsite on a hybrid basis (onsite work 2 days per week & 3 days remotely). This role will include some potential for evening and weekend outreach events.
  • Coursework or related experience in environmental fields (e.g., internships, volunteer work) is preferred.

  • Authorization to work in the United States for the duration of the fellowship (SEI is unable to sponsor visas).
  • May require occasional moving about to accomplish tasks, moving from one worksite to another, or adjusting or moving objects under 25-50 pounds in all directions.
