LRE (Leeward Renewable Energy) is a high-growth renewable energy company forging a sustainable future through integrity, innovation, and positive impact. We own and operate 30 large wind, solar, and energy storage projects across the United States, totaling over 3 gigawatts (GW) of generating capacity.
LRE has an ambitious goal of 10GW of operating assets by 2028 and are developing and contracting an increasing pipeline of new projects every year. This position will be responsible for utility-scale solar, wind and BESS power plant instrumentation, SCADA and power plant control design, specifications, installation, and commissioning support. Engineering experience with SCADA and control systems design required. Field experience in testing/commissioning and/or telecommunications is a plus.
This position reports to the Director of Development Engineering. The goals of this position are to support development of plant SCADA design standards, ensure current projects in construction and the development pipeline meet technical and business requirements while maintaining our long-term ownership focus.
Assist new construction project and meet commissioning timelines
Responsible for maintaining standard documentation for Operation Technology
Overseeing the planning and execution of control projects
Testing and verifying the performance of systems and products
Provide support to onsite personnel during SCADA Commissioning activities
Implementing systems improvements
Provide expert advice and serve as mentor to other engineers
Responsible for configuring and deployment of Power Plant Control, Instruments, and Meters dedicated to plant control.
Manage contractors while commissioning, or operation projects.
Responsible for Power Plant Control commissioning during construction and operation
Responsible for providing technical solutions for Power Plant Controllers.
Performs maintenance, software updates on Power Plant Controllers.
Responsible for installation and performance validation of the Power Plant Control and SCADA for IRR plant (Solar, Wind, BESS) commissioning.
Responsible for design system interfaces to integrate PV, BESS, windfarm and substation control system with other SCADAs.
Responsible for programming and integrates substation equipment with owner SCADA.
Troubleshoot, analyze, repair, report on, and recommend/ perform services of SCADA, RTAC, and instrumentation.
Perform and document validation and calibration results.
Ensure that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets.
Interface and support of telemetry from project sites to third parties such as QSE’s and regulatory entities.
Develop and maintain tools and automation of company data.
Collaborate with and mentor other SCADA engineers as needed.
Responsible for installation and configuration of OT networks equipment
Bachelor Degree in Engineering
Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated and manage technical projects, including interaction with outside vendors.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize work, as necessary.
Experience with Power Plant Control
Experience with utility-scale solar and storage SCADA system design
Experience with utility-scale solar plant instrumentation specifications
Experience with BESS EMS system
Experience with Inductive Automation Ignition software
Experience with communication protocols for base-level devices: Modbus, Modbus TCP, OPC, DNP3, etc.
Experience with FAT and SAT testing and documentation
Working knowledge of Utility Meters, Substation RTAC, Protection Relays
Knowledge of NERC CIP requirements
Knowledge of Power Plant Networking, Security and Firewalls
Position will require sitting for long periods of time as well as occasionally lifting up to twenty-pound boxes.
