This position provides leadership and strategic direction to ensure long-term profitability. Responsibilities include managing construction materials operations, market development, sales strategy, plant cost, engineering activities, and resource development. The role also involves aligning with regional management, collaborating with Construction Managers to identify growth opportunities, and fostering alliances with customers, vendors, and subcontractors for successful business execution.
Essential Job Accountabilities
- Oversee the entire Construction Materials Business in the Region to ensure that strategic growth activities for the materials business are in alignment with regional management.
- Conduct market analysis and gather information by developing key contacts through networking to identify new business opportunities, collecting competitor information to assess capabilities and offerings, and developing a regional materials strategy.
- Work with Regional Manager and Construction Managers to identify and analyze current and future construction materials growth opportunities to ensure long-term profitability goals are met.
- Build and maintain a culture of operational efficiency and strategic alliances with customers, vendors and subcontractors to ensure the team “delivers the goods” in its construction materials business.
- Develop and maintain relationships by engaging with current and potential customers to meet sales targets, interfacing with stakeholders to understand needs and identify leads, building relationships with internal and external customers to develop value solutions, and fostering relationships with clients to promote interests.
- Approve all materials-related transactions, purchase requisitions, and change requests to meet corporate and business unit objectives. They must monitor compliance with company, client, and project policies and procedures to maintain adherence to Granite’s core values.
- The responsibilities include approving transactions and managing materials functions:
- Approval of all materials transactions, purchase requisitions, and change requests
- Managing materials sales functions
- Optimize plant operations and manage resources by determining manpower, inventory, equipment, and schedules for optimal performance, analyzing production and cost reports to achieve financial goals, and developing strategies with the local team to optimize margins and meet sales targets.
- Monitor all company, client, and project policies and procedures to ensure Granite’s core values are maintained.
- Coordinate and facilitate operations by working with equipment and construction departments, leading teams to secure operational sites and obtain permits, and negotiating agreements with landowners and stakeholders.
- Ensure the recruiting, staffing and development of our materials personnel enables strategic objectives are met.
- Assist with implementation/interpretation of safety programs to ensure a safe work environment.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Engineering, Construction Management or related fields providing or equivalent experience in Plants and Materials.
Work Experience
- Minimum 10 years experience.
- 5+ yrs management experience
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
- Knowledge and experience with Concrete Batch Plants and Aggregate Plants preferred.
- Thorough knowledge of all aspects of materials (technology, equipment, methods, quality, delivery optimizations), company policies, procedures and standards.
- Excellent communication, organizational, supervisory, and planning skills required.
- Outstanding customer service, public speaking and presentation skills
- Ability to effectively manage and prioritize resources, people and projects
- Sound decision making ability with the experience to balance consensus against authority as appropriate
- Team player, with strong leadership skills, who can operate effectively within a matrix management environment
- Excellent consultative and communication skills and ability to interface effectively with all levels of management and all types of customers
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to provide creative solutions to real-time challenges
- Ability to work in a high production environment and respond quickly and effectively under pressure and deadlines
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive for extended periods of time
- Able to occasionally travel overnight.
- Proficiency with all MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), JWS, and other materials/plants software.

Base Salary Range:
$164,026.00 - $246,039.00
Pay may vary based upon relevant experience, skills, location, and education among other factors.
