Job Description

Purpose for the role:

With a number of sites in construction and a significant pipeline, a key ambition of Masdar’s is to set up a BESS Operations Control Desk. This desk will be responsible for the monitoring, analysis & scheduling of all assets and act as the key interface between all stakeholders (Masdar, O&M contractors, DNO, OEM and Optimizer).

Control Room Operator will be responsible for the inception of the control desk and play a key role in its development. Reporting to VP Asset Management (Battery Storage), the Control Room Operator will work closely with the O&M Field Manager and Data Team to set up a best-in-class operational function focusing on governance, safety and data-driven decision making. As the operational portfolio grows, there is plenty of opportunities for this role to drive the expansion of the Control Room team.

Key Responsibilities:

Real-time monitoring of BESS state of health, site availability and alarms:

  • Primary user of BESS SCADA and BoP SCADA to detect/diagnose technical Issues and relay them to the appropriate team.
  • Acts as the first line of diagnostics and alarm interrogation in tandem with the OEM (BESS manufacturer).
  • Primary user of Masdar’s BESS Advanced Analytical tool looking at BESS state of health, safety, predictive maintenance and warranty assessment.
  • Responds to alarms and system deviations, initiating corrective actions to ensure system performance and reliability.

Maintenance/Outage scheduling:

  • Directs and supports dispatch of technicians to perform reactive and scheduled maintenance.
  • Critical technical issues to be communicated to Masdar O&M Field Manager and BESS OEM.
  • Supports with maintenance/outage scheduling and ensuring that all stakeholders are fully aware of battery availability well ahead of any outages.
  • Optimizes any scheduled works to ensure as much of a site stays available as possible

Data and Reporting:

  • Supports our Data Scientist
  • Analyse performance data to identify trends and recommend improvements.
  • Reports/Information to be disseminated to the Masdar Asset Management/Commercial team and other stakeholders.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Adhere to operational safety standards, protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Responsible for monitoring site visits/work remotely using CCTV and SCADA systems
  • Primary Contact/Interface for Security Provider and will deal with any security incidents (within Business Hours initially) ensuring the correct response is enacted.
  • Acts as Site Controller in an emergency and will enact Emergency Response Plan.
  • Maintains operational logs and records.
  • Participate (when requested) in QHSE works, audits, office inductions, incident reporting and review of QHSE performances as applicable

Comply with information security policies, procedures and requirements at all times:

  • Adhere to any applicable Masdar information security policies and procedures and identify and report security incidents and suspected weaknesses to the appropriate point(s) of contact.
  • Protect assets under care (e.g. laptops and other devices) and information/credentials against unauthorized access, sharing, and/or damage/loss, in accordance with the Information Classification and Handling Procedure.
  • Clear desks of all sensitive material and log off/ lock workstations at the end of the day and when leaving desk for a prolonged period in accordance with Acceptable Usage Policies.
  • Ensure not installing, copying or modifying of any software on Masdar equipment without authorization
  • This includes participating (when requested) in QHSE audits, office inductions, incident reporting and review of QHSE performances as applicable.
