Job Description

Braun Intertec is hiring for a Principal Consultant in Lenexa, KS.

The Principal Consultant is an experienced professional that is responsible for professional judgement and work products.  The Principal Consultant serves as a technical and business leader at Braun Intertec Corporation (BIC) and has authority to provide final technical review and sign technical reports and other correspondence as the reviewing engineer on behalf of Braun Intertec.  The Principal  Consultant is expected to lead and guide technical practice, mentor and develop junior staff, and participate in internal and external technical organizations.

The Principal Consultant is responsible for managing complex projects/programs that have significant business impact. They operate without direct supervision and exercise judgement to make decisions and develop solutions to ensure successful project completion. They must possess the ability to solve novel and complex situations for which there may be no standard of care established, or where opinions/solutions may be contradictory. They're also responsible for final technical review of proposals and project deliverables.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Serves as technical and professional leader within BIC, serving with a Regional and National focus, for one or more specialties.
  • Actively leads, mentors, and develops technical staff.
  • Review engineering work of others and technical reports.
  • Manages highly complex projects and provides technical review and project management support of projects for clients with multiple technical disciplines.
  • Prepares and provides subject matter expertise for major proposals and contracts.
  • Prepares complex engineering reports giving professional opinions and practical geotechnical solutions.
  • Performs engineering analysis using company and industry methodologies and standards and makes engineering decisions using standard formulas and computer software.
  • Interfaces with federal and state regulatory authorities on complex projects.
  • Develops and delivers client presentations as part of relationship development and assists with marketing strategies and activities pertaining to technical practice.
  • Understands and manages the needs of clients through communications and proposal/project work.
  • Oversees client contracting in unit with support from corporate legal. 
  • Develops and maintains internal and external client relationships, including project and non-project related face-to-face meetings.
  • Understands Braun Intertec services and can market such to clients. 
  • Coordinates project assignments with other engineers and technicians within the discipline group.
  • Identifies complex problems/possible solutions and takes the appropriate action to resolve them.
  • Efficiently and effectively manages project teams including engineering and field support personnel.
  • Works within established procedures and/or protocols with the ability to manage and migrate risk.
  • Represents BIC internally and externally as a technical leader and resource.
  • Actively involved in industry and professional associations, serving in leadership roles and on technical committees.
  • Present locally, regionally, and nationally at industry association meetings.
  • Consistently follows all safety policies and practices and communicates project safety requirements to all team members assigned to projects managed.

Required Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and strategic thinking skills.  
  • Creative and innovative thinking in bringing successful resolution to high-impact, complex, and/or cross-department initiatives.
  • Ability to qualify professional opinions and recommendations of less experienced engineers and mentor in applying engineering principles and practices.
  • Ability to influence others, delegate and develop direct reports.
  • Reputation of being a technical leader in the industry regionally or nationally.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Braun Intertec contracting policies, including General Conditions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the local Standard of Care.
  • Demonstrated sound technical document review practices.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, or closely related field, MS or PhD preferred
  • Minimum 15 years of geotechnical engineering experience within a professional consulting services group
  • Experience managing client relationships and developing new business
  • Valid Drivers license with acceptable driving record
  • Professional licensing
  • Proficient with computers and ability to work with different applications

    Compensation Range:

    $118,500.00 - $177,000.00
